Regular events and programming

The Writers House could host a regular series of events that would contribute to the vitality and attraction of Camden as the site for a metropolitan university. These might include:

a. A monthly poetry or literary reading, open to all genres. Regional poets and writers would be invited to present their work, followed by an open microphone.

b. A bi-monthly workshop with a visiting author (in collaboration with the Whitman Center, Kelly Writers House, or Free Library of Philadelphia) in any discipline or genre of writing.

c. Regular meetings of writing groups for students, faculty, or community residents, at which excerpts of writing projects could be read and discussed Bnot for a grade or credit, but for the free exchange of ideas.

d. Forums presented by Career Planning and Placement and other counseling services on or off campus that have information of interest to students, such as employment opportunities in writing, teaching, and other fields.

e. Workshops on poetry, drama, or other genres of writing for teachers of creative writing in area elementary and secondary schools; workshops for students from such schools brought to Rutgers-Camden to visit the Writers House.

f. Screenings of independent films by local filmmakers.

g. An annual small press book fair, held in conjunction with the Summer Writers Conference and the Summer Session, with readings, demonstrations of electronic media, and book exhibits.
